Master’s Research AwardPurpose of the awardTo recognize the excellence of a substantial work of master’s-level research and its contribution to the information field. EligibilityApplicants must have completed their master’s thesis in Library and Information Science or a related field in a Canadian higher education institution during the current or last calendar year (e.g., dissertations completed in 2024 or 2025 are eligible for the 2025 award). A CAIS/ACSI membership is required for this award. Nomination processApplicants must submit a document of no more than four (4) pages, including a summary of the research work, which may be a thesis, major research paper, substantial project, or other non-traditional research output; a description of its significance for the information field; and a link to the work. Additionally, applicants must include a letter from a faculty member attesting to its quality and contribution to the information field. Emerging Leader AwardPurpose of the awardThe purpose of this award is to recognize an early-career researcher or practitioner who has contributed to the advancement of the information field in Canada or internationally through their research, practice, or service. EligibilityNominees must have graduated no more than ten years prior to the application date, and either have a main affiliation to, or be a graduate from, a Canadian school, department, or faculty offering an ALA-accredited graduate program. A CAIS/ACSI membership is required for this award. Nomination processNominations must consist of the nominee's CV and two (2) letters of support, not written by the nominee. The nomination letters should highlight the nominee’s contributions to the field and explain how these contributions merit recognition. Doctoral Dissertation AwardPurpose of the awardTo recognize the excellence of the doctoral dissertation of a recent PhD graduate and of their contribution to the information field. EligibilityApplicants must have completed their doctoral dissertation in Library and Information Science or a related field in a Canadian higher education institution during the current or last calendar year (e.g., dissertations completed in 2024 or 2025 are eligible for the 2025 award). A CAIS/ACSI membership is required for this award. Nomination processApplicants must submit a document of no more than two (2) pages, highlighting their dissertation’s significance for the information field, and including a link to the dissertation. Additionally, applicants must include a letter from their supervisor or department director confirming that the dissertation is completed and attesting to its quality and contribution to the information field. Career Achievement AwardPurpose of the awardThe purpose of this award is to recognize the exceptional achievements of a researcher or practitioner who has greatly contributed to the advancement of the information field in Canada or internationally. Nominees must have a main affiliation in Canada, or be a Canadian working abroad. A CAIS/ACSI membership is NOT required for this award. Paper proposals by graduate students and practitioners will be considered for these awards. The Student-to-CAIS/ACSI award includes a monetary prize. Both awardees will have the opportunity to publish the full manuscript in the Canadian Journal of Information and Library Science / La Revue canadienne des sciences de l’information et de bibliothéconomie. In order to be considered for these awards, please indicate if you are a student or practitioner when submitting your proposal. Winners will be selected based on their extended abstracts.
